Ecarte is played with 32 cards, which are the seven through the king, and the ace. The ace ranks between the ten and the jack. Five cards are dealt to each person, the remaining cards are the stock, and the top card is the trump suit. The non-dealer can either play or prepose to change any or all of the cards, the dealer must accept the proposal. This goes on untill the stock has been gone through, or the non-dealer decides to play.

Euchre is played with 24 cards, being the nine to the ace. Five cards are dealt to each person, and the remainder of the cards are the stock, with the top card showing the trump suit. However, in this game, starting with the non-dealer, can accept or reject the trump suit. If he rejects it, he can pick from one of the other 3 suits. The dealer also gets this option.
